Organizations and government institutions from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland have developed a free digital platform, the ESG Tool, which helps companies understand complex sustainability standards and properly prepare for sustainability reporting. The ESG Tool is available in English, Estonian, Finnish, Latvian, and Lithuanian.
The ESG Tool enables entrepreneurs to assess their company’s impact on the environment, social well-being, and economic sustainability. It helps analyze and evaluate companies’ position in these sustainability-related areas: climate change, pollution, water and marine resources, biodiversity and ecosystems, resource use and circular economy, workforce, value chain workers, affected communities, consumers, end-users of services, and business conduct.
“We are proud to be among the creators of the ESG Tool and a project partner, helping companies adopt environmental, social, and governance criteria and prepare sustainability reports. In today’s market, the ESG Tool takes on particular strategic importance, as integrating sustainability into operations promotes transparency, efficiency, and long-term growth,” notes Simonas Černiauskas, Director General of Infobalt.
In addition to this tool, the digital platform also provides descriptions of sustainability reporting standards, practical guidelines in key environmental, social, and governance areas, educational videos, examples of best practices, and individually tailored recommendations.
Most EU member states incorporated the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) into their national legislation in 2024. Under this directive, all large companies are required to regularly report on their operations’ impact on the environment and society and share information on how they address environmental, social, and governance issues. In 2025, the reporting obligation for certain companies was postponed by two years, and certain legislative changes regarding sustainability reporting are also planned for 2026.
The ESG Tool was initiated in 2023 as part of a broader initiative promoting digital innovation and transformation in the Baltic region. The project is supported by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, with a total budget of approximately EUR 3.5 million. The lead project partner is the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. Other partners include: the Estonian Ministry of Finance, Ministry of the Environment, Environmental Investment Centre, ITL Estonia and the Let’s Do It Foundation, Finland’s DIMECC LTD and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, Latvia’s LIKTA and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development, Lithuania’s Infobalt and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation, and Poland’s WAMA COOP. The project is scheduled to conclude on December 31, 2025.
“This collaboration reflects Infobalt’s commitment to promoting digital innovation and sustainable development. We believe this user-friendly educational tool will be widely used across the region and will enable organizations to create a positive impact on the environment and society while increasing their competitiveness,” emphasizes Simonas Černiauskas, Director General of Infobalt.
A free webinar to introduce the ESG Tool will take place on September 10 from 10:00 to 11:30. The webinar will present the tool’s key features, a practical demonstration of how to assess a company’s ESG profile, and expert advice to help companies achieve sustainability.
Two in-person seminars will be held in Estonia, Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania in September and October. In Vilnius and Kaunas, the seminars will take place in October. The aim of these seminars is to facilitate practical learning and encourage the application of the ESG Tool in practice.
